That leaves just two versions for now in the US—the Twin Motor Performance Plus, and the Twin Motor Performance Ultra, as Volvo calls them.

“It's still our desire to launch the EX30 Single Motor in the US,” US communications manager Russell Datz told Green Car Reports. “We will share more details about the timing at a later date.”

US-bound EX30 models were originally supposed to be sourced only in China, but production will soon begin in Ghent, Belgium. Volvo said first delivery of EX30s made in China which is happening now as part of a limited run planned to satisfy the need for pre-orders from enthusiasts, but it is clear that The upcoming US EX30s will come from the European factory.

“It is still our intention that most or all of the EX30s planned for sale in the American market will be built at our plant in Ghent, Belgium once production begins there,” said Datz.

Volvo won't yet provide a US arrival date or model year for those affordable versions of the EX30, but it's possible they'll arrive later this calendar year. Whether that is considered part of the 2025, 2026, or 2027 model year, remains to be seen.

It also undercuts the Kia Niro EV by a significant amount. At about 167 inches long, the EX30 is a really small car by American standards.

Volvo has been suggesting for years that it sees subscriptions as the way to embrace EVs, and the EX30 could be a great way to achieve that. Volvo announced back in 2021 that its US EVs would be sold at fixed prices and sold exclusively online, though that strategy remains to be seen.
