Tesla Fire Model S in France
A Tesla Model S caught fire while charging at a Supercharger station in France. Tesla is investigating the matter, and the station is temporarily closed.
On Sunday night, a fire was reported at a Tesla Supercharger station in Pontarlier, a small French community near the border with Switzerland.
Firefighters were called, and were able to put out the fire which appeared to have started in the Model S which was connected to the Supercharger.
The car was monitored until this morning to make sure it didn't break down.
Local newspaper L'Est Republicain shared a photo of the back, showing the Tesla Model S in total loss:
According to a local paper, Tesla sent an expert from Lyon to investigate the matter (translated from French):
A Tesla technician arrived from Lyon overnight to investigate the cause of the fire. The investigation is ongoing.
Electric vehicle batteries can sometimes burn out, but statistically, they don't burn out at a higher rate than gasoline-powered vehicles.
