Conventional hybrid cars run on gasoline or diesel but usually use very little of it. Although they have an electric motor and a small battery pack, the batteries cannot be charged externally. Instead, the batteries are charged when the vehicles are moving slowly and the electric scooter switches roles to become a generator for a while. This regenerates power that would normally be lost due to brake heat.
