The promised Ram 1500 REV long-distance pickup has been canceled. Ram no longer plans to introduce the variant, which was expected to offer a range of more than 500 miles. Here is what will take your place.
The Ram 1500 REV long-distance pickup has been cancelled
After launching its first electric van in 2023, the Ram 1500 REV, the company said it will be available in two battery sizes: 168 and 229 kWh.
The standard 168 kWh battery is expected to provide a range of up to 350 miles. Meanwhile, Ram said the large 229 kWh battery will unlock more than 500 miles of driving range.
After a leak from suppliers this week, we now learn that Ram is shelving plans to build a long-range electric pickup model.
Supplier notice, viewed by MoparInsidersstates, “As Stellantis continues to focus on the launch of the Ram 1500 Ramcharger and Ram 1500 REV (BEV L), the company has made the decision to CANCEL the Light Duty RAM 1500 DT BEV XL (long-range variant).”

Stellantis asked the supplier to “immediately cease all operations” and stop spending related to the project. Cancellation only applies to the long distance version.
The Ramcharger is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) pickup. Powered by a 92 kWh battery and a 3.6-liter V6 engine, the Ram targets a range of up to 690 miles.

Ram has already delayed the arrival of the all-electric pickup. It was expected to arrive by the end of 2024, but won't start until 2026. The company is focusing on the Ramcharger, which will be available in the first half of 2025.
The new delay comes after Chrysler, another brand of Stellantis, shelved its long-awaited electric crossover earlier this week.
On the bright side, the first Jeep Wagoneer S and Dodge Charger Daytona EVs have finally arrived in US stores.
Electrek's Take
Stellantis sales sank 15% in the US last year, but the company continues to delay a major EV launch. Ram (19%), Dodge (29%), Jeep (9%), and Chrysler (7%) all sold significantly fewer vehicles in the US in 2024 compared to last year.
Will the arrival of Jeep and Dodge's first electric models help turn things around? As Ram continues to lag, new EV pickups, such as the Tesla Cybertruck and Chevy Silverado EV, are gaining momentum.
Can Stellantis turn things around? It will have to start making progress soon or risk falling behind its US rivals.
