Greenlane, an EV charging joint venture of Daimler Truck, NextEra Energy Resources and investment firm BlackRock, has received a $15 million grant from the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD). The grant will allow Greenlane to accelerate development of its first EV charging tunnel along Interstate 15.
The SCAQMD funding will be used for the site design, engineering and construction of the charging infrastructure at Greenlane's flagship charging station in Colton, near Interstates 215 and 10 in California. The Colton site is expected to be operational by the end of 2024. Once completed, it will house more than 60 heavy, medium and light EV chargers. Another 41 charging bases and 53 connectors will be funded by the SCAQMD grant.
Greenlane aims to develop a network of commercial charging infrastructure facilities across the US and Canada. The charging stations will also serve passenger EVs and low-powered fleet customers.
“Greenlane clearly outlines the path toward a more sustainable future not only for the transportation industry but also for the residents of San Bernardino County, which faces high levels of air pollution,” said Larry McCallon, SCAQMD Board Member. “Transportation of goods from the transport corridor has been a major source of air pollution in our area.”
“By establishing corridors and deploying a nationwide network of public charging stations, we are not only meeting the pressing need for accessible infrastructure for commercial vehicles but also paving the way to transform the future of EV charging,” said Greenlane CEO Patrick Macdonald-Inkosi.
