Ballard & Kolon aims to improve the efficiency of fuel cells with a new agreement

Ballard has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Korean manufacturer and long-term partner, Kolon Industries, to strengthen collaboration and innovation across technology, strategy, and hydrogen value chain.

The agreement was signed by Ballard CEO Marty Neese and Kolon President Sung Huh on December 4, 2025 during the annual World Hydrogen Expo in Seoul, South Korea. The MoU marks an important step towards deeper strategic collaboration between the two companies, combining Kolon's strengths in materials and moisture technology with Ballard's leadership in fuel cell systems.

By focusing their enhanced collaboration on key fuel cell solutions, the partners will look to strengthen the area of humidity control devices (MCD) – which use advanced technology to integrate with HVAC systems to manage field humidity – while growing through joint R&D programs and improving performance across Ballard's portfolio of applications.

Also speaking in Seoul, Kolon's Huh said the MoU marks an important milestone in strengthening Kolon's partnership with Ballard, pledging to continue his company's efforts to expand the hydrogen market in the region and globally.

The next immediate steps for the partners include the implementation of a more stable parts supply system, which will support Ballard's ambitious plans and increased deployment activities in all segments of the world's hydrogen and energy storage.
