Rivian's (RIVN) electric pickup is getting some unique new accessories. Worksport (WKSP) is releasing aftermarket accessories for the Rivian R1T, including its SOLIS solar-powered tonneau cover.
Known for its truck tonneau covers, Worksport is rapidly expanding its lineup. The company announced plans to develop aftermarket accessories specifically for the Rivian R1T this week.
Worksport said its existing range of tonneau covers, fitted with the Rivian R1T, is about to be phased out. Covers are designed to improve efficiency, protect the vehicle from the elements, and provide a safe storage area.
Building on its existing products, Worksport says the SOLIS is “the first collapsible solar tonneau cover.”
According to Worksport, a solar truck bed cover can provide up to 650 clean energy.
Combined with its COR battery system, the SOLIS Worksport cover can harness solar energy and store it for later use. The bundle can be used to power your next camping trip, workplace, or anywhere off the grid.
Rivian R1T for solar powered tonneau
Worksport says that, with charging capabilities expected at Level 2, the solar cover will be able to function as a range extender.
Steven Rossi, CEO of Worksport, said, “Rivian owners deserve to be covered with a special bed and power system to go forward and do anything.”
The company said its solar powered tonneau cover will be manufactured at its West Seneca, NY, manufacturing facility, where it manufactures current accessories.
Rivian's R1T isn't the only electric truck set to get a solar-powered Worksport cover. In February, Worksport announced it was developing a solar and battery storage system for Ford's F-150 Lightning.
After delivering another 10,018 vehicles in Q3, Rivian's deliveries reached 37,396 in the first nine months of 2024.
Rivian aims to deliver between 50,500 and 52,000 vehicles this year, slightly higher than the 50,122 delivered last year. The EV manufacturer will launch the smaller, more profitable R2 in early 2026 as it expands into new markets.
