Milwaukee Tool's new M18 FUEL dual battery electric chainsaw makes up to 5.8 hp – that's the equivalent of 70 cc of power to deliver fast cuts, fewer stalls, and balanced weight distribution for better control.
Milwaukee has missed no opportunities to equip its new 20″ M18 FUEL chainsaw with branded technology. The saw ships with REDLITHIUM batteries, an advanced POWERSTATE brushless DC motor, and REDLINK PLUS Intelligence that the company says enables “full communication between the saw and the battery,” to improve performance, battery safety, and jobsite productivity.
“This latest addition to the Milwaukee lineup sets a new standard for battery chainsaw performance, delivering unprecedented power while maintaining battery compatibility,” explains Tony Buxton, director of product marketing for Milwaukee Tool. “When paired with the new M18 REDLITHIUM FORGE XC8.0 batteries, this saw provides professionals with a huge leap in productivity, finally demonstrating the power REDLITHIUM FORGE battery technology unlocks at work. With this expansion of our chainsaw line designed to meet the operational needs of the tree care industry, Milwaukee delivers the most complete offering of chainsaw battery solutions. “
Once you get past the marking job, the saw itself is an impressive piece of machinery. In addition to delivering competitive power, the Milwaukee electric chainsaw eliminates the most common headaches of ICE, such as drag, high noise levels, regular engine maintenance, and (of course) the disproportionately high carbon emissions of lawn machines.
The 20 Inch saw guide bar features a tough, multi-hole nose and 12-tooth design to better withstand tough cutting jobs. It also has a small kerf design (kerf refers to the width of the cut made by the chainsaw blade as it passes through the wood … again: yes, I had to look it up) so I get more cuts per charge compared to standard kerf systems. High-visibility drop elements and dual steel studs are also included.

Electrek's Take
Cordless power tools have come a long way, and next-level tools from Milwaukee and others prove the value of batteries in extreme work situations. The more it happens, the more likely workers are to accept electric power for ever-larger applications… such as excavators and wheel loaders.
And, whether they like it or not, ever-tightening noise and emissions regulations are making battery power a must-have in many markets by the day.
