Hyundai's new low-cost EV gets a bold design upgrade. The Hyundai Casper EV Cross was seen for the first time in public, revealing new design elements.
While we knew that a rugged “crossover” variant was headed to Europe, this was the first time the domestic model had been seen with an upgraded design.
Hyundai launched the Inster EV Cross earlier this month, giving the electric city car a new look.
The Inster EV is Hyundai's international version of the Casper Electric brand. In Korea, Hyundai's Casper EV starts at around $20,000 (27.4 million won). Hyundai said their new EV can be purchased for less than $8,000 (10 million won) with a subsidy.
In Europe, it starts at less than $27,000 (25,000 euros). The Cross variant is designed for “those looking for an EV with an interesting look,” Hyundai says.
Although it offers many of the same features as the regular model, the Inster EV Cross gains more rugged design elements, including new front and rear bumpers, black cladding, skid plates, roof rack, and more.
Here's our first look at the Hyundai Casper EV Cross
After the rugged new Casper EV brand was first spotted in Korea, the Cross model is expected to debut soon.
New video from HealerTV it features additional design features, including a roof rack and aggressive black trim.
The reporter notes that the Hyundai Casper EV Cross “feels more functional and futuristic than the current model.”
It almost seems “robotic” with an off-road feel. The Inster EV Cross achieves a 223 mi (360 km) WLTP driving range. In Korea, the Casper Electric is rated for a driving range of up to 195 miles (315 km).
While the Hyundai Casper (Inster) EV is not expected to be launched in the US, the low-cost model was spotted driving in California for the first time this month.
In the meantime, off-road fans can get in line with Hyundai's upgraded 2025 IONIQ 5, which will be available in the rugged XRT trim. The 2025 IONIQ 5 XRT model was also recently caught testing ahead of delivery.
