Which electric vehicles have the widest range?

  • By 2025, many EV variants top 300 miles of range
  • The top ten list includes pickups, SUVs, crossovers, sedans, and hatchbacks
  • Standouts like the Lucid Air and Hyundai Ioniq 6 carry market-leading range without large battery packs

Less than a decade ago, 300 miles seemed like the holy grail of EV driving range. Now, as the overdue reality of mass charging infrastructure and fast road charging begins to emerge, some new EVs are promising 500-mile ranges.

EVs reached 300 miles with the Tesla Model S in 2016. In the years since then there has been no going back—especially as fast charging. the infrastructure is outdatedand the adoption of EVs beyond California and the “smiley” states. cold weather range concerns.

There is now a whole crop of EVs with US EPA ratings topping 350 miles, including several in the top 400. By 2023, 270 miles was the median, and it could be 300 miles soon.

You may also notice that there is no shortage of trucks on this list. For example, three out of eight vehicles with a 350-mile EPA range are large pickup trucks. With the arrival of larger battery versions of the Max Pack, Rivian's R1S and R1T electric trucks both have a range of 400 miles. And more are on the way. The fully electric Ram 1500 REV arrives early next year aiming for a range of 500 kilometers and its top version is set to have a massive 229-kwh battery.

Getting more mileage out of many of these cars comes at a higher price, too. GMC, for example, makes the large 205-kwh battery a $9,995 option on the Hummer EV 3X Pickup on top of its $106,945 base price. That results in a “GM average” EPA cycle rating of 381 miles, or 359 miles with the available Extreme Off-Road package. Those aren't illegal though as the large battery pack drops the Hummer into the mid-size truck weight class with commercial trucks.

Not all EVs offer more than 300 miles of range, and there are notable exceptions. For example, the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV is rated at 319 miles, and GM is now offering examples with a base price of $34,995.

We've limited this list to cars that have had them EPA official range and efficiency ratings available on the EPA's FuelEconomy.gov website as of Nov. 4, 2024, which makes an exception for vehicles which we are currently delivering-like the Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD. 2025 model year vehicles were listed when possible, with 2024 models still available to avoid re-use.

Likewise, to avoid repetition, we list only the top-width model for each nameplate. It should be noted, for example, that the entire Lucid Air system lasts more than 350 miles.

The EV range: weight and cost

Many of these vehicles reach their mileage with large battery packs that store enough energy to power homes (or commercial buildings) for days, and in practical terms their battery packs cost (and weigh) as much as conventional gasoline vehicles.

If you think it's sleek and green, this should definitely raise new questions about why we need such a large battery capacity and range, when most EVs are second or third vehicles assigned to the daily commute.

The list shows the minimum price (including destination and mandatory fees) for that range, as well as the curb weight and battery size of the contents. In general, heavier vehicles mean a larger package and more energy used.

All that said, here's our list of the top ten 2024 and 2025 wide-range EVs.
