Daimler Truck North America has helped liquor distributor Reyes Beverage Group fully equip 29 Freightliner Cascadia Class 8 electric trucks to its California delivery fleet.
Reyes Beverage Group (RGB) plans to deploy the first twenty Freightliner electric trucks at Golden Brands – East Bay and Harbor Distributing – Huntington Beach warehouses, marking the first phase of the company's transition to a fully zero-emission truck fleet by 2039 . An additional nine Cascadia Class 8 HDEVs are scheduled to be delivered to RBG's Gate City Beverage – San Bernardino warehouse before the end of 2024.
RBG's decision to welcome the Freightliner to Cascadia builds on its recent transition to renewable diesel and its ongoing program to reduce idle time. These electric vehicles (EVs) “go electric” will contribute significantly to the company's stated goal of reducing carbon emissions by 60 percent by 2030. These 2 trucks will save about 98,000 liters of diesel fuel every year, and avoid putting about 700 metric tons of carbon. carbon dioxide and other harmful emissions in California's air each year.
“We are excited to be among the first in our industry to adopt these electric vehicles,” explained Tom Reyes, President of RBG West. “This is an important step toward our sustainability goals and ensuring compliance with federal regulations as we convert our fleet to EV.”
Freightliner's eCascadia electric trucks offer a range of batteries and drive axles with a range between 155 and 230 miles, depending on truck specification, to perfectly match customer needs without compromising performance and payload capacity. RBG's Freightliner Cascadia tractors will rely on electric charging stations installed at each location, allowing them to charge up to 80% power in just 90 minutes for RGB trucks, which have a typical driving range of 220 miles as equipped.
Electrek's Take
Food and drink trucks operate everywhere – not just in ports but also in urban centers. That means they emit polluted air where many people live and work, and rightly so there is nothingwhich makes the electrification of these vehicles a no-brainer for anyone who cares about the quality of life of the people who live and work around them.
