Hyundai CEO vows 'the best is yet to come' with new EVs and technology

While 2024 has been a good year, Hyundai Motor Group chairman Euisun Chung told employees that more is on the way — and coming soon. With new EVs and the introduction of advanced technology, a Hyundai executive said, “The best is yet to come.”

Hyundai Motor Group, which includes Kia and Genesis, is having a big year. Global sales are on track for another record-breaking performance.

According to the company's CEO, Hyundai is just getting started. On Thursday, during a town hall meeting at the company's newly upgraded headquarters in Singapore, Chung told executives and employees, “Our journey has been amazing so far, but the best is yet to come.”

Hyundai opened a smart new facility last November to build custom EVs. Buyers can personalize their cars at home. You can even book a test drive on the company's 675-yard (618-meter) rooftop track to get a better feel for the car.

According to Hyundai, the innovation center “provides unprecedented ways for EV consumers to connect with their vehicles and the Hyundai brand.” The facility is full of robots that do about 50% of the work.

Custom-built EVs, such as the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6, and autonomous robots are built at the facility. Now, Hyundai is expanding “Software Defined Factory (FSD)” to other key regions.

Hyundai is rapidly introducing new EVs and technologies

Chung said the AI, IT, and robotics used in Singapore will “gradually add to factories both domestically and overseas, including Hyundai Motor Group's Meta Plant America.”

Hyundai began production at its largest new EV plant in Georgia in October, after the first US-made IONIQ 5 rolled off the assembly line.

The updated 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 features a larger battery with more range and a sleek new design. It even comes with a NACS port for Tesla Supercharger charging. Hyundai will build its first three-row electric SUV, the IONIQ 9, alongside it, which will start operating next year.

Hyundai is coming off its best sales month ever in the US, its most important market. However, the company expects to stand out more with the new locally made models.

The record sales were “driven by the strong performance of our EV and hybrid vehicles,” explained Hyundai Motor America CEO Randy Parker. Parker's added excitement is building the US-made IONIQ 9, and “we can't wait to bring it to market.”

Hyundai's EV sales rose 77% in the US last month. With nearly 5,000 units sold, the IONIQ 5 had its best sales month ever, just as the 2025 models hit dealerships.
