As the transportation industry has developed, so has the potential. From fully electric vehicles to advanced high-tech boat rides and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) – the battery case has adapted to these important technological changes and the way we get our application from start to finish – whether we're on the road, the race track or on the water. AGM2 is the latest generation of Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) technology and offers many benefits to customers across a variety of applications.
So, what exactly is an AGM2 and how is it different from traditional AGM technology? Let's explore this topic in detail to understand its importance for customers.
What is an AGM2?
AGM2 a new generation of Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) battery technology, which delivers double the power and triple the lifespan of conventional AGM and lead acid batteries. AGM2 batteries are made of the highest quality materials and a refined chemical formula using Thin Plate Pure Lead (TPPL) technology.
Why the AGM2?
In recent years, the electrical load requirements of ships, watercraft and heavy-duty vehicles have increased significantly. Evidence shows that this leads to an increase in car accidents as standard lead acid batteries cannot cope with the high demand. AGM2 batteries were developed to address these industry changes and help deliver uninterrupted, long-lasting power that customers can rely on while on the go.
If you see the AGM2 badge on ODYSSEY® A battery from EnerSys, means that the battery has been tried and tested to deliver outstanding results for modern applications in harsh environments, from demanding start-up requirements to operating at temperatures as high as 176°F (80°C) to as low as -40° F (-40°C).
How is the AGM2 different?
To answer this question, we must start from the beginning. The advent of AGM batteries in the mid-1970s provided users with a low-maintenance energy storage solution with high capacity and charging capabilities. Unlike conventional lead acid batteries that have thin paper plates or thin separators that are soaked in an electrolyte solution of dilute sulfuric acid, an AGM battery consists of a fiberglass separator placed between each plate to absorb the electrolyte. This makes the battery spill proof with no additional water or electrolyte ever needed. Since the stacked plates are much stronger than conventional lead acid batteries, AGM batteries also offer better extreme shock and vibration resistance.
However, AGM technology alone and its values for many decades, can only be pushed so far before the limitations of chemistry and materials are exposed, which is now seen as a premature failure due to the increasing demands of modern vehicles. machinery.
AGM2 it is unique in that it combines the most technological advances into one battery: 1. the most advanced materials; 2. refined chemical formula and TPPL technology 3.. This sets AGM2 batteries are different in terms of capacity, accepting fast charging, shelf life, durability and above all being able to offer the customer a Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
THE ODYSSEY® AGM battery2 Profit
Most AGM batteries have plates made of recycled lead, which require the addition of additives to make the plates stronger. Over time, this can lead to plate corrosion and a higher rate of wear.
Plates inside the ODYSSEY® AGM2 batteries are made of 99 percent pure lead (not recycled lead or alloys). This unique feature, combined with pure lead oxides, high purity electronic grade and advanced plate engineering, helps position the ODYSSEY® AGM2 batteries in their class.
Due to the purity of the material, the plates in ODYSSEY® AGM2 the battery is much smaller than the plates of a conventional lead acid battery, which allows the use of more plates, resulting in a surface area for the reaction that occurs with the electrolyte, bringing more power – without compromising service life.
Pure lead also self-discharges at a much lower rate than batteries containing additives, meaning the ODYSSEY® AGM2 the battery has a shelf life of 2 years before needing to be recharged. Its unique design protects against high impact shock and mechanical vibration – two common causes of premature battery failure.
THE ODYSSEY® AGM2 batteries that offer three times the life of flooded batteries or other AGM battery designs and have the highest charging efficiency of any sealed lead acid battery on the market; they can be charged to 100 percent in 4-6 hours.
In addition, all ODYSSEY® AGM2 batteries provide high cranking power, deep cycle storage capacity and motor pulses of up to 2,250 amps for 5 seconds – two to three times that of conventional batteries of the same size, even at very low temperatures. They can also handle 900 discharge cycles to 50 percent Depth of Discharge (DOD). The batteries' deep cycle power also allows them to power accessories and systems when needed, such as switches, auxiliary lights, navigation and A/C compressors, and all start/stop applications.
