- Volvo EX30 US arrival delayed due to cost
- Volvo now says the EX30 will arrive within a year
- The first EX30s to arrive in the US will be $46,195 two-car models
After a delay due to price hikes, the Volvo EX30 small electric crossover will arrive in the US later this year.
Set to debut in 2023, the EX30 was originally scheduled to arrive in US dealerships this past summer. But in June Volvo said it would postpone deliveries until 2025. On Tuesday, the automaker reversed course, announcing that it would “begin filling pre-orders for US customers” to “satisfy demand as quickly as possible.”

Deliveries will start with dual-motor all-wheel drive because it is the most requested according to Volvo. The price of the two car models is still the same starting at $46,195 with an on-site fee of $1,295. A single-car version, which Volvo previously said will start at $36,245 in US form, will arrive later in 2025.
As Volvo has done before, all US models will have 69-kwh nickel cobalt manganese (NMC) battery packVolvo is now waiting to come back with it 253 miles wide for two vehicle models in the EPA test cycle. A 51kwh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack will be offered in some markets as an entry-level option, offering a lower life cycle than the NMC pack, but the EX30 will still be among the lowest-priced EVs in the US even with the NMC pack.

Volvo in 2023 committed to moving production of the EX30 from China to Ghent, Belgium, starting in 2025. But getting cars from China became impossible after May 2024, when the Biden Administration raised tariffs on EVs made in China from 25% to 100%. Volvo then delayed the US launch of the EX30 to 2025 to give time for the Belgian plant to grow.
Meanwhile, the Volvo EX90 3-row electric SUV sitting at the opposite end of the price range is now being assembled at the automaker's factory in Charleston, South Carolina, alongside the Polestar 3 from the Volvo brand. However, Volvo has not discussed plans to build the EX30 in South Carolina.
