Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has delivered 100 of its K9UD 12-meter electric buses to Uruguay's largest public transport operator, Cutcsa.
On September 19, BYD delivered 100 of its fully electric K9UD city buses to Cutcsa, the largest electric company in Uruguay. This delivery marks yet another major sale for BYD as the company expands its presence in the Latin American transportation market. It also greatly promotes the cause of green transportation in Uruguay.
BYD's official press release didn't go into detail on the K9UD's Uruguayan spec, so it's safe to assume it won't deviate too much from the European version. In 12m spec, that bus has a GVWR of 19.5 ton, seats 85 people, and has a range of 450 kilometers (about 280 miles) from its 422 kWh lithium-ion phosphate battery.
The power of the big electric buses comes from electric motors between the wheels of 150 kW, which add up to a total of about 400 hp. More than enough, in other words, to make the bus go faster and keep the traffic flowing.
Uruguay joins Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and Ecuador as BYD customers, as the company continues to advance regional efforts to decarbonize public transportation.

Replacing diesel with electric vehicles in densely populated areas has strong, tangible, and measurable benefits – not just in terms of cost, but in terms of reducing surface air pollution and improving overall quality of life. There is absolutely no way to justify the alternative at this point, especially hydrogen.
