BYD is preparing to roll out its second factory of 7,000 vehicles

A second carrier is ready to board as BYD looks to continue its global expansion. BYD's new fleet is the second of seven to take to sea in the next two years as China's EV leader goes global.

BYD is preparing to launch a second car company this year

BYD shipbuilder, Guangzhou Shipyard International, unveiled a new car carrier at a booth relaunch event over the weekend.

After the launch event, BYD's new car company is about to enter. The ship will undergo a series of inspections before it officially begins operations.

The 7,000-car vessel, “BYD Hefei,” is the second car carrier the company has unveiled. BYD launched the first one, the “Explorer No 1,” in January. It has already completed two European tours, Spain and Germany, and also stopped in Brazil.

However, BYD Hefei is the first car company. Explorer No 1 was built by China International Marine Containers (CIMC) for partner Zodiac Shipping.

BYD will add seven more fleets in the next two years to secure its position in the global EV market. The new car carrier (BYD Hefei) is 199.9 meters long, with a beam of 38 meters and a draft of 9 meters.

According to Guangzhou Shipyard, the ship is the first of two ships the chipmaker is building for BYD, starting a long-term partnership.

BYD broke its NEV sales record for the third consecutive month after selling 373,082 new electric vehicles (EVs and PHEVs) in August.

BYD sold 145,627 electric vehicles last month, bringing its total to over one million by 2024.

Meanwhile, BYD's overseas sales reached 31,451, up 26% from August 2023. With the company carrying new vehicles and plans to increase local production in key markets such as Turkey, Pakistan, Mexico, and Brazil, BYD looks set to gain market share in key automotive areas.

BYD is already among the best-selling EV markets in Brazil, Mexico, and Southeast Asia, but the company expects overseas sales to grow in the next few years.
