Charged EVs | Littelfuse introduces a series of current monitors for EV charging stations


US industrial technology company Littelfuse has introduced the RCMP20 Residual Current Monitor Series for EV charging stations.

The RCMP20 Series is designed to provide high performance and flexibility while supporting higher current charging than other products on the market, according to the company.

The monitors have a large aperture of the current transformer (CT), while the integrated conductors with high cross-sectional areas provide improved thermal management, reducing the temperature of the printed circuit board (PCB). An integrated PCB with optional leads simplifies installation, reduces the number of parts and simplifies assembly, allowing compact designs while meeting safety code requirements.

The modules are designed to be resistant to electromagnetic interference (EMI), reducing spurious circuit trips and improving the reliability of the charging station as a whole.

The RCMP20 Series has vertical and horizontal mounting options and 2-4 integrated conductors, allowing design engineers to optimize space utilization and adapt to various charger conditions.

The RCMP20-03 module is designed to help improve the safety of portable charging stations by monitoring AC and DC residual current. If a low fault, leakage or residual power exceeds the limit, the RCMP20-03 triggers a circuit shutdown, preventing electrical accidents.

The RCMP20-01 module is specifically designed to detect DC residuals in charging stations with type A RCDs that are passive. If the DC fault currents exceed the limit, they indicate a trip to the connected switching device, which ensures the protection of the user.

Littelfuse recently expanded its range of Ultra Junction X4-Class 200 V Power MOSFETs for battery storage and power supply applications.
