Stellantis has announced a new investment of $406 million in three Michigan facilities to support its “multiple energy” strategy, and confirmed that the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (SHAP) will be the company's first US site to build a fully electric vehicle.

Stellantis is investing $235.5 million in its Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (SHAP) to prepare for production of the 2025 Ram 1500 REV electric truck, which will be introduced in late 2024. a mixture.

At SHAP, Stellantis has partnered with equipment suppliers and contractors to install a new conveyor system and new BEV-specific process switches, as well as to restructure and reorganize work areas in the general assembly to be able to produce ICE, BEV and PHEV models on the same assembly line. .

“Sterling Heights Assembly has made a remarkable turnaround in record time,” said Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares. “Getting ready to build our first electric Ram truck and extended version in Michigan is a proud moment for our teams. With this investment supporting both Jeep and Ram, we are adding new features to our Michigan manufacturing facility to support a multi-power approach focused on customer needs.”

The Ram 1500 REV is built on the new STLA Frame design, designed specifically for full-size electric vehicles with a body-frame design. The STLA frame is wide in the middle to accommodate the battery pack while still using the protection provided by the frame rails.

Stellantis is investing $97.6 million in the Warren Truck Assembly Plant to produce the future electric Jeep Wagoneer, one of four plug-in Jeeps scheduled to launch before the end of 2025. The electrified models will be built on the same lines as the ICE versions of the legacy Jeep Wagoneer.

Stellantis is investing more than $73 million in the Dundee Engine Plant, which will be used again to assemble, heat and test the battery trays for the STLA Frame construction and to machine the front and rear beams of the STLA Large Architecture.

Stellantis says it will invest more than 50 billion euros in electrification by the end of the decade, and hopes to achieve a 100% BEV sales mix for passenger cars in Europe and a 50% BEV sales mix for passenger cars and light trucks in -US in 2030. The company plans to secure 400 GWh of batteries per year at battery manufacturing plants in North America and Europe.
