Charged EVs | Toshiba releases automotive photorelay for 400 V battery-related control systems


Toshiba Electronics Europe has introduced a high-voltage transistor output photorelay for 400 V automotive battery management systems.

The automotive-compliant TLX9150M is housed in a compact SO12L-T package. Its space-saving form factor of 7.76mm × 10mm × 2.45mm is 25% smaller than Toshiba's existing SO16L-T package. This helps to reduce the battery unit and reduce costs.

The photorelay delivers a minimum breakdown voltage (VOFF) of 900 V at a maximum ratio (TON/TOFF) for 1 ms. This is important for sensitive control systems such as battery and fuel-cell control and battery management systems (BMS) for voltage monitoring, as well as for detecting machine adhesion and earth faults.

The TLX9150M contains an infrared (IR) emitting diode optically integrated with a photo-MOSFET, which provides electrical isolation between the primary (control) side and the secondary (switching) side, allowing safe switching control for all the different power sources on earth.

The trigger current (IFT) is greater than 3 mA, reducing system power consumption. The off-state current (IOFF) of the device is 100 nA maximum at ambient temperature, drawing little power while idle. The IR LED has an on-state (IF) current rating of 30 mA, while its photodetection element has an on-state (ION) current rating of 50 mA at ambient temperatures.

The pin height and pin layout of the two package sizes are the same, allowing for a common circuit board pattern design. This normally open device (1-Form-A) features a minimum creepage of 8 mm and a clearance distance and a minimum insulation thickness of 0.4mm, for effective isolation at operating temperatures ranging from -40° C to + 125° C, and perfect. conforms to AEC-Q101 and IEC 60664-1 standards.
