XCharge North America, a provider of DC fast charging solutions, is partnering with Swiss startup Grensol Group to tackle the challenge of reducing end-of-life waste associated with EVSE—specifically EV charging cables and modules.
Since then, XCharge NA will supply broken or worn EVSE components to Grensol and its research partner Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), to develop an industrial solution for the recycling of such equipment. Grensol will use its metal detection and image processing technologies to, among other things, process waste and produce useful raw materials, including essential metals for new charging stations.
“EVSEs have a very short useful life due to chronic wear and tear, so the need for a material solution is what drives this collaboration,” said Rajiv Singhal of Grensol. “Partnering with XCharge NA will provide us and WPI with the resources and knowledge to develop future low-cost solar cell solutions that keep offshore resources and materials in use for a long time, while avoiding carbon emissions.”
