The UIM E1 Championship Series is a new powerboat racing league that is trying to make a mark in the sports industry and grow its fan audience around the world. Its first season included eight scheduled Grad Prix, where its first nine teams, led by owners such as Tom Brady, Rafael Nadal, and Will Smith, battled for the first-ever E1 cup scheduled to be held in Hong Kong. this fall.
However, as a fledgling league, the E1 Series has changed its schedule several times over the past year. The first start of the electric boat race was pushed, but for a few days the competition was closed around the world.
Events originally planned for Geneva and Rotterdam were scheduled mid-season, but E1 teams competed in five Grand Prix, including Jeddah, Venice, Monaco, and most recently Lake Como. As announced earlier this year, the E1 tournament was scheduled to take place in Hong Kong in November. However, E1's website currently has the date and location for that final season listed as TBC.
No matter where and how the first season ends, the E1 Series is already starting to solidify many places to race electric boats for the second season in 2025.
The E1 racing series will compete in Qatar in 2025
According to a release from the E1 series, the second season will include its electric boats racing in the waters of Doha, Qatar, in February 2025. To make it official, E1 founders Rodi Basso and Alejandro Agag attended an event in association with Visit Qatar and the United Development Company on September 30th at Corinthia Yacht Club, The Pearl Island, Qatar.
Doha has now been secured as the official first race venue for the 2025 E1 season, and the deal has been described as a “historic agreement” between the new racing series and Visit Qatar. Eng. Abdulaziz Ali Al-Mawlawi, CEO of Visit Qatar, spoke about the agreement:
Through our partnership with E1, Visit Qatar will bring to the country a new sports tournament, further enriching the country's sports landscape. Qatar continues to develop its sports infrastructure and host major international sporting events for citizens and visitors to experience. The importance of Qatar's sporting heritage lies in the country's record of hosting and supporting major sporting events. Qatar has built a reputation as a hub for international sporting events, hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup, and the AFC Asian CupTM to name a few. We are also preparing to host the FIBA World Cup in 2027 and the Asian Games in 2030, all of which demonstrate the country's modern infrastructure, organizational capabilities, and commitment to excellence.
The Corinthia Yacht Club at The Pearl Island of Doha will host the E1 series of races from February 21 to 22, 2025. The area has 32 kilometers of new coastline and accommodates approximately 25,000 people, which is home to a community of -52,000. Together, E1 and Visit Qatar are looking to promote tourism in the Middle East region and sustainability across its waters.
While we await the announcement of other race venues for 2025, we will be focusing on the pending 2024 E1 UIM Championship, wherever and whenever.
