Electric truck startup OX Delivers has secured a $163 million multi-year deal to bring its rugged, capable, and affordable electric vehicles to East Africa in a bid to bring mobility to the global south. .
The $163 million multi-year deal creates a new business called OX East Africa, and includes the delivery of a fleet of OX Delivers electric trucks, as well as a multi-year subscription to the company's technical center and vehicle repair services as the company develops its capabilities. presence in Rwanda and extending to Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.
OX East Africa, will work to meet the growing demand for OX Delivers' truck-as-a-service business in Rwanda, and expand to Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Burundi.

Simple, durable construction
OX Delivers calls its truck the first purpose-built electric vehicle for the Global South. This year, the company delivered its best performance since it started operating in Rwanda, generating more than $920,000 in revenue by the end of October.
Flat-pack OX Delivers trucks are shipped on pallets to be assembled at/closer to their final destination. The trucks have a 74 kWh battery good for a range of over 90 miles (150 km) and a payload capacity of 4,400 lb (2000 kg).

Despite much of the West's view of Africa as a backward, low-tech continent, African countries are embracing mobility in the same way that they are embracing mobile communication: immediatelyand without the burden of a competing, pre-installed infrastructure holding them back.
