GE Vernova places orders to renew 1 GW of US wind turbines

GE's offshore wind business Vernova has announced that it has received orders by 2024 to renew over a gigawatt (GW) of wind turbines in the US.

Renewable energy is about breathing new life into old turbines. By replacing aging components such as turbines, blades, and nacelles for the latest technology, wind farms are seeing significant improvements in efficiency, power capacity, and lifespan. Some infrastructure and control systems can also get a second life.

Adding new components to existing infrastructure and grid connections means it is less expensive to extend the life of a wind farm with fewer resources. The new components make the turbines less prone to wear and tear which means less maintenance, so there are fewer operating costs.

The renewable energy projects GE Vernova received orders for will use nacelles and drive trains for production at its Pensacola, Florida plant.

“As the United States works to meet exponential demand for more energy, renewable energy projects like these help American workers in US industries use what we already have, where we already have it,” said Matt Lynch, general manager of Repower. at GE Vernova.

Orders are booked between the first and fourth quarters of 2024. GE's Vernova wind power projects are expected to come online between 2024 and 2027.

GE Vernova's offshore wind business has an installed base of approximately 56,000 and approximately 120 GW of installed capacity worldwide.
