Chevy markets the Equinox EV as an SUV; but in reality, it is a station wagon. At 190.6 inches long, the Equinox EV is almost exactly the same length (and shape, except for the modern EV's long wheelbase) as the Chevy Celebrity wagon—albeit with a higher seating position.
For reasons we don't fully understand—even back-to-back comparisons, as we did in Georgia's Best Car To Buy test in October—the Equinox EV has an easier ingress and egress than its Chevrolet Blazer EV cousin, and what you pay for is better backseat space. in most cases. Fold down the rear seats of the Equinox EV and you can expand from 26.4 cubic feet to 57 cubic feet.
The GM has to watch pennies somewhere to make all this work. In Best Car To Buy's test, held in Georgia, our team put a variety of different EVs in it and it was evident that these are not particularly focused on improving road noise. And the interior setup and general cabin ambience, leaves a lot to be desired—unless you feel a certain desire for space and switchgear that you might think GM abandoned in the early days of the Millennium.

It's also worth pointing out that the Equinox EV is not a charging station or an efficient one. For example, the Lucid Air Pure goes over 100 miles on a single charge with a relatively small battery. The Chevy's 10-80% charge in over 30 minutes is certainly good for a road trip, though—and plenty of delicious lunches while you wait and savings. It's also compatible with GM power products, if you care to use that big battery for home backup.

So to sum it up, we definitely need more of this. The Equinox EV offers a tax-deductible electric vehicle. It also brings back some of GM's previous Ultium buzz, even if the strategy might be a bit of a letdown.
