H2@Work Employee Spotlight: Kaitlyn Kemp


Kaitlyn Kemp is a Process Engineer at Plug, where she works on process calculations, simulations, safety reviews, and documentation for the 5 MW USA Electrolyzer. Most recently, he also supported GenFuel's data analytics function. His role allows him to combine technical details with a big-picture focus on clean energy.

From Intern to Full Time Engineer

Kaitlyn's journey with Plug began while she was a student at RPI. He completed his first apprenticeship in 2022 and enjoyed the experience enough to return for two more. Those summers eventually led to a full-time role. Living in the region while growing his career made the transition feel natural and rewarding.

Why The Plug Was The Right Choice

In school, Kaitlyn studied chemical engineering and sustainability studies. He wanted a role where both disciplines were important. The Plug gave him the opportunity to use his engineering skills while contributing to green energy solutions that make a positive impact beyond the workplace.

Seeing the Work Live

One of Kaitlyn's most memorable experiences happened during her first training, when she went to Texas to confirm her stats on a live show. He saw the production of very pure water and helped solve the problem on site. That expression of hands made the work feel real and meaningful.

Approaching Challenges as a Team

Kaitlyn says she has been fortunate to work with supportive groups. When challenges arise, you work closely with teammates and vendors to find common ground. That collaboration helps move projects forward more smoothly.

What excites Kaitlyn most about hydrogen is the range of possibilities. It sees it as a promising source of green energy that can help tackle climate change and improve energy independence. Being a part of that development keeps him motivated.

The Guiding Mind

Kaitlyn often comes back to the idea of ​​being the change you want to see in the world. He applies that mindset at work and in his personal life, focusing on small actions that add up to meaningful impact.

Returning Without Work

Outside of Plug, Kaitlyn stays busy with sports and community service. He is the JV girls lacrosse coach at a local high school and previously played at RPI. She is also a foster dog and volunteers at an animal shelter, finding joy in giving back and supporting her community.
