Here is the time you can expect

Volkswagen's flagship electric sedan, the ID. 7, will not be launched in the US this year as expected. Even if EV sales decline in the US, the ID.7 won't arrive until at least 2025.

The ID.7 is already on sale in Europe and China, but US buyers will have to wait (at least) a little longer.

In May, Volkswagen delayed the introduction of the ID.7 permanently in the US. The company said the move was due to changing market conditions without giving an exact date for the planned launch.

Although the launch date was not yet announced, the ID.7 was expected to be released in the US as late as this year as early as 2025.

Some Volkswagen dealers are weary of the new EV sedan. The ID.7 has been a hot topic during recent meetings, according to John Luciano, a member of the VW Nation Dealer Advisory Council and owner of Street Volkswagen in Texas.

“We expressed a little caution after that,” Luciano said earlier this year (via Car News).

When will Volkswagen launch the ID.7 in the US?

Although pricing was not disclosed, Luciano said “the car is definitely $50,000 to $60,000, without benefits.” He added, “Is there any chance of competition?” Some feel it is possible now.

At 195.3″ long, 73.3″ wide, and 60.5″ tall, VW's ID.7 is roughly the same size as a stripped-down Passat (194″ long x 73″ wide x 59″ tall).

A big reason for dealers to be wary of VW's new EV is America's growing appetite for large trucks and SUVs. With prices expected to start above $50,000, the electric sedan faces stiff competition from luxury rivals.

Although the launch of the ID.7 has been delayed indefinitely, we could still see the electric flagship sedan in the US by the end of 2025.

According to Volkswagen Group of America CEO Pablo Di Si, the ID.7 could enter the US market as soon as 2025 (with the ID. Car News). The VW leader said the ID.7 will “probably” be introduced in 2025, depending on demand.

The ID.7 was originally expected to be launched in the second half of 2024. Volkswagen's decision comes despite sales of its only EV, the ID.4, falling 58% in Q3 from last year.

In March, we learned that the ID.7 will be available in Pro S and Pro S Plus trim options. Both variants will be offered with RWD and 4MOTION AWD powertrains. In Europe, the ID.7 starts at around $60,000 (55,000 euros) and has a WLTP range of up to 435 miles (702 km).

With the ID.Buzz electric minibus arriving in the US this fall, Volkswagen is likely to see an uptick in EV sales. Will the ID.7 join it next year?
