Hydrogen Hypercar – Hydrogen & Fuel Cells Innovation

Unveiled in 2022 as a concept car designed as a blueprint for the brand's future direction in sustainable design and innovation, Alpenglow has already demonstrated the high-performance potential of the hydrogen combustion engine, a practical solution to offer sports models with high carbon reduction goals. In this way, Alpine is ready for possible changes in the upcoming regulations. And it is a symbolic function of the word Alpenglow, which takes all its meaning: a luminous substance that lets a brilliant light shine on the mountains before sunrise, in other words, the dawn of a new world.

Following the original 340 bhp, turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, this is the Alpenglow Hy6 with a new engine that provides more than double the power. It's a 3.5-liter V6, completely optimized by Alpine for efficient hydrogen combustion. Producing 544 kW (740 bhp), or more than 150 kW/l (210 bhp/l), it gave Alpenglow first-class performance, fittingly in keeping with the impressive design of this dynamic, ever-evolving laboratory. development of new vehicles.

Since its first version appeared two years ago, the Alpine Alpenglow concept car has evolved from a collaboration between designers and engineers to combine aerodynamic efficiency with advanced design. This version of the Alpenglow Hy6, with a new V6 engine, has various changes and technical improvements. At the same time, the Specular Blue all-carbon bodywork style has an extreme edge.

The Alpine Alpenglow Hy6 hydrogen-powered rolling prototype is designed as a real race car based on an LMP3 carbon chassis. From the start, the chassis was designed to match the performance offered by the new Hy6 V6 engine, which doubles the power output compared to the 4-cylinder engine used in the first demo lab. Taken from a blank sheet of paper, the Hy6 V6 is an unprecedented engine purpose-built by the Alpine teams of Viry-Châtillon for use with hydrogen. Two years of work went into its development. It was a major engineering challenge regarding certain aspects of hydrogen combustion, which resulted in a special increase in technology. Oreca is the technology partner that made it possible to apply this fun approach to engine design.
