EnerSys ODYSSEY® The Connect battery monitoring system has been the flagship of Penske's latest 12-volt electric fleet test fleet. Paired with ODYSSEY® ODX-ACE31 batteries, ODYSSEY® The Connect system has allowed us to track and analyze the power performance of our tractor, Auxiliary Power Units (APU) and liftgate trailers. The ability to see how the battery is weighing on the vehicle has been invaluable to our fleet productivity and overtime.
For example, by using ODYSSEY® Connect the battery monitoring system to analyze the battery temperature in the application of the battery box under the cab, we can see the internal temperature of the battery rather than just the surface temperature. This allows us to focus on how to separate/direct heat to minimize peak temperatures.
We also use the system for our voltage drop investigation and battery pack balance. Be able to review the history of ODYSSEY green® ACE battery data allows us to identify system inefficiencies from certain batteries in the pack carrying most of the initial charge to batteries not receiving enough charge to reach full capacity.
With the ability to view safety alerts and notifications via Bluetooth® to Apple® or Android™ For smart devices, we can review various battery performance trends including State of Charge (SOC), State of Health (SOH), voltage, temperature and battery history.
Extending battery life is very important to Penske because it helps give our customers more time and helps our sustainability goals. THE ODYSSEY® Connect the battery monitoring system gives us the intel to achieve these goals – both in the near term and in the long term.
