Polestar on Friday confirmed its first customer delivery Electric vehicles made in the US.
Every Polestar model to date has been there produced in Chinabut the 2025 Polestar 3 is assembled at a South Carolina plant shared with Volvo. Production began there in August following software-related delays.
First delivery of the US Polestar 3
The Polestar 3 is the platform of the Volvo EX90, built in the same area of South Carolina. But where Volvo offers three seats, the Polestar sticks to two, with a total of five seats, with a sporty character. It offers up to 315 miles of range from a 111-kwh battery pack, with a standard two-motor all-wheel drive powertrain rated at 489 hp and 620 lb-ft of torque, or 517 hp and 671 lb -ft is optional. The Polestar 3 has a base price $74,800 that's less than the $80,000 federal tax credit for electric SUVs. But even with that, and the US meeting, of course you are less likely to qualify for a federal tax credit for the foreseeable future. In addition to stricter sourcing requirements, the new “foreign concern” language prohibits subsidizing companies if a “parent enterprise” in China, Russia, Iran, or North Korea owns more than 50% of the company.

Polestar said it will pass on a $7,500 lease credit, following the path of other automakers in using so-called EV leasing loophole. This allows the use of a system intended for commercial vehicles by automakers with captive finance arms to claim credit and pass savings on to customers even if the vehicles are otherwise ineligible.
Building cars in the US at least avoids the recently raised prices for Chinese EVs. In a complex solution to the same problem, the US market versions of the Polestar 4 like the coupe will be built at the Renault plant in South Korea. That is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2025.
