Thinking of upgrading your EV? Rivian (RIVN) launched a new promo on Tuesday, offering up to $6,000 in cash to upgrade your R1S or R1T. Here's how you can grab some savings.
The Rivian R1S and R1T upgrade deal offers up to $6,000
Rivian delivered more than 51,500 vehicles last year as the EV maker gained momentum. Although it was slightly higher than the ~50,100 delivered in 2023, Rivian is expected to see more growth this year.
After closing its Normal, IL manufacturing facility last April and renegotiating supplier contracts, Rivian has seen “significant cost improvements,” according to CEO RJ Scaringe.
Rivian also started delivering its next-generation R1S and R1T models last year. The new Large and Max battery packs have redesigned modules and efficient packaging, “making them easier to manufacture and service.” For example, Rivian's new EVs use seven ECUs, down from 17 in the first-generation R1T and R1S.
Through new equipment development, reworked supplier contracts, and efficient vehicles, Rivian is now passing savings on to customers.
Rivian launched a new promo on Tuesday, offering up to $6,000 to upgrade your R1T or R1S. The amount of the bonus varies depending on:
- Tri with Max battery: $6,000 USD / CAD 8,600
- Dual with Max battery and performance improvements: $4,500 USD / CAD 6,500
- Dual and Max battery: $3,000 USD / CAD 4,300
Offer is for current R1T or R1S owners or employers in the US and Canada. Rivian launched a new promo on January 21, and it continues until March 31, 2025.
After you purchase or lease an eligible vehicle, Rivian will apply the discount to MSRP. Must be delivered by March 31, 2025. In writing, Rivian said, “You must request a trade-in quote to qualify for this offer, but it is not necessary to trade in the vehicle.”
Any other models are not included in the offer. These include Dual Standard configuration, Dual configuration with Large battery, custom builds, demo cars, and pre-owned cars.
The new offer follows Rivian's previous upgrade promotion launched last October, which offered up to $3,000 to qualifying gas-powered car owners or renters.

Electrek's Take
Rivian's R1S was already the best-selling electric car in the US last year, with nearly 27,000 models sold. With more driving range and power at a lower cost, the electric SUV could see more demand in 2025.
Then again, with the arrival of new luxury electric SUVs, such as the Jeep Wagoneer S and Volvo EX90, the Rivian will face more competition in the US.
Rivian's latest promotion comes as the company looks to build momentum from the end of 2024 into the new year. The EV maker is offering other deals, including 1.99% APR for 60 months on the R1 Dual with Max Battery and Performance upgrade.
