The New South Wales Rural Fire Service is putting a new, 600km volvo FM electric truck in its ranks as they work to modernize their emergency vehicles and keep Australia safe from the devastating effects of bushfires.

In an impressive display of power, the Electric Semi truck created a route of 550 kilometers (340 miles) from the Glendenning NSS Logistics facility in the town of Albul. The truck and trailer arrived just in time to be shown at the NSW Rfs Championships in Thurgoona.
The truck was operated by a two-member driving team consisting of inspector Brendan Doyle, Transport and Rfs Logistics Manager Peter Duff, who shared the driving duties over the volvo FM electric installation, as well as the heavy experience of charging the vehicle on each side of the journey.
“This drive presented a great opportunity for us to touch, feel and experience an electric motor on public roads,” explained Doyle. “It also allows us to consider what roles a vehicle like this could fill within our entry fleet in the future.”
Dyle's Partner in Ride Complurs. “The driving experience was awesome,” added duff, “one of the most important things for me is that you can take anyone who is familiar with an existing Volvo truck and they will be able to drive this without additional training.”
TROR TOURS APHIL8.7 km / h on the trip, with an energy consumption of 1.24 kWh / km – a figure comparable to the tesla semi, which Tesla Elon Musk claims uses 2 meters per mile. The big volvo needed to charge a staggering 6 hours of arms to complete the 6 hour and 15 minute journey with stops at Goulburn and Tarcutta.

It's great to see Electric Semi trucks being used in real life hauling applications, unlike the crappy potato chip hauling jobs we've seen in the recent past. With the fleet of used electric cars out the door driven by 100 million miles, it's hard to believe that Tesla will be able to catch up.
