Stelantis remembers about 45,000 plug-in hybrid crossover SUVs around the world because they may be built with weak brakes.
The recall covers the 2024-2025 Alfa Romeo Tonale and 2024 Dodge Hornet plug-in hybrids. Of the recalled vehicles, 21,069 are in the US, 2,299 in Canada, 145 in Mexico, and 20,987 in markets outside North America according to Stellantis.

Affected vehicles may have brake pedals collapse if pressed, it disables it. If this happens, drivers can pull the electronic parking brake tab on the center console to help slow the cars, Stellantis notes, adding that automatic emergency braking will intervene in the event of a collision. Drivers should make sure the feature is turned on, though.
Stelantis estimates that 5% were returned cars have faulty brake pedals. The automaker knows that 15 cases of brake failure around the world, including one crash, but no injuries or deaths.

Sellers will tighten the brake pedals on affected vehicles for free. Stellantis expects to send owner notification letters on October 24. The closely related Tonale and Hornet plug-ins were also recalled last year due to fire concerns related to loose battery cables. The Tonale is only sold as a plug-in hybrid in the US, while the Hornet is also sold with a standard non-hybrid powertrain. Both deliver 33 miles of EPA-rated electric range and 29 mpg combined fuel economy, while aiming for a sporty character and foreshadowing future electric models from both brands.
