Genesis is preparing to launch its ultra-luxury GV90 electric SUV. After the first prototypes were caught near the Hyundai site, we learn more about what to expect from the flagship SUV.
Genesis unveiled the Neolun concept in March, a preview of its upcoming full-size SUV. The SUV will serve as a beacon of technology as Genesis looks to move up the ladder, challenging luxury brands such as Rolls-Royce and Bentley.
The concept includes a “reduced design,” giving it a clean, minimalist look. One of the standout features is the dual-tone headlamps in the form of the iconic Genesis crest grille.
Genesis even installed coach doors. With the B-pillars removed, the electric SUV has that sleek, premium look.
Meanwhile, the interior is fit for royalty. When you open the doors of the coach, you are met with electric side steps that operate automatically. The interior seats fold flat, providing a versatile, spacious interior.
The SUV also features an immersive, almost “concert hall-like” sound experience, with each speaker strategically placed.
The Genesis GV90 will be launched as a new luxury SUV
The large 24.6″ infotainment screen can be fixed or integrated into the dash. Genesis also featured an “Ondol” heating system based on the Korean underfloor heating system. Genesis says it will help improve heating efficiency while providing a living room-like feel.
Reports from Korea emerged this summer that the first prototypes of the GV90 will be built in October. In accordance with TheKoreanCarBlogthe first prototypes have already been seen outside Hyundai's R&D center in Korea.
Genesis is preparing to launch two models, Standard and Exclusive trim. The Standard model will get standard doors, but the Exclusive trim is expected to retain the coach doors from the concept.
The Exclusive model will be limited to just a few units as the Genesis looks to move up. It is expected to compete with the best-selling large SUVs such as the Mercedes Benz GLS-Class and Bentley Bentayga.
According to the report, Genesis is completing the development of the production prototype after overcoming problems with the coach door. Hyundai's R&D center has reportedly solved this problem, and GV90 prototypes are ready to be tested on public roads.
