The Hyundai Ioniq 9 3-row EV SUV is being teased, starting on November 21

On Wednesday, Hyundai released another tea Ioniq 9, a three-row electric SUV The automaker will unveil it at the 2024 Los Angeles Auto Show on November 21.

Judging by the teaser images, the Ioniq 9 will have the straight profile of a conventional SUV, albeit with a rear roofline that may be a concession to aerodynamics. It will be based on the same E-GMP dedicated EV platform as the current Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6.

Hyundai has been teasing this model for some time. It was announced along with the Ioniq EV sub-brand in 2020, and was previewed with the Hyundai Seven concept at the 2021 Los Angeles auto show. Expect the Ioniq 9 production to do it it starts in LA like that.

In July of this year, Hyundai confirmed that a three-row electric SUV will arrive as a 2025 model, but now it's officially attaching the Ioniq 9 name to that model. While the use of the Hyundai Seven in the concept version indicated that the production model will be named the Ioniq 7, the Ioniq 9 aligns Hyundai with similar EVs from sibling companies Kia and Genesis.

Inside the Ioniq 9 is expected to be, and it looks like based on the latest teaser image, a lounge-like interior. The Seven concept featured a lounge-like interior complete with brass accents and adjustable seats.

The Ioniq 9 is likely to share a name with the Kia EV9 Green Car Reports The Best Car to Buy in 2024. Hyundai's luxury brand Hyundai will also launch their “The highest value of the GV90” electric SUV, around 2026. The GV90 is expected to take steps from the Genesis Neolun concept revealed before the 2024 New York auto show.

One big question over the Ioniq 9 is the manufacturing environment. The GV90 will reportedly be built in South Korea, while US production of the EV9 has recently been transferred to Kia's plant in West Point, Georgia. Hyundai has theirs Georgia EV “Metaplant” that's scheduled to build 2025 Ioniq 5 models, but Hyundai will also have to make room for the Ioniq 9 to make that model eligible for the tax credit.
