Kia remembers 14,163 EV9 electric SUVs because their digital instruments may be blank while the vehicles are being driven.
Cars, a mix of 2024 and 2025 modelsreceived an over-the-air software update in August that may have introduced a software logic error, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This can cause the instrument-cluster screens to go blank at times, preventing the driver from seeing the speedometer, odometer, and turn signal indicators.

The “subsystem functionality” of these indicators is not affected, NHTSA noted, but because a software problem prevents the information from being seen by the driver, the safety issue. Screen failures that block important information or controls fall into the realm of safety, which is why Tesla is forced to recall 135,000 vehicles in 2021 to fix faulty touchscreens that can cause loss of rear camera display and other functions.
Kia first became aware of the issue after a series of customer complaints, but told NHTSA that it was not aware of any crashes, injuries, or deaths related to the issue.

The automaker will push another one air update to address the issue, but customers can also take their vehicles to dealerships to have the software updated. This is the second most recent recall of the EV9, which debuted in the 2024 model year offering up to 304 miles of range under 100 kwh of battery capacity, and a price bumped up to $75,395 to stay under the federal EV tax credit cap. Another recall addresses an issue with the remote parking system on 12,400 models equipped with that optional feature.
