At select Lennar communities in Austin and Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, bring home backup Base Power batteries – free – when homeowners sign up for Base's monthly electric service.
Base Power is a licensed electricity supplier operating in unregulated areas in Texas. It acts as a virtual power center, meaning the Base battery helps keep the grid stable when it's up and running, and when the grid goes down, the battery keeps power on at home.
This means that Lennar homeowners will receive backup power during an outage, as well as potential energy bill savings, and they will pay. no upfront costs usually associated with home batteries or generators. The Base model is that it is paid for by the grid, rather than paid for by homeowners.
The pilot partnership between Base and Lennar is at Firefly Pointe in Hutto, Rancho del Cielo in Jarrell, and Rancho Canyon in Haslet. Lennar homeowners at these sites who sign up for Base electric service will receive a 20 kWh backup battery, and installation is free. The plan is to expand the offering to other Lennar communities throughout Texas.
It is a timely move. “Last summer, more than 3.5 million Texans lost power due to severe weather and other factors,” said Eric Feder, president of LENx, which oversees Lennar's innovation and investment business. “Our investment in Base helps Lennar homeowners avoid this increasingly common occurrence with a worry-free solution.”
In May, Base Power became the only licensed electric provider in Texas to offer customers monthly energy service, home battery, and installation, and solar is not required.
