Toyota is recalling certain Corolla Cross Hybrid crossovers from the first two years of production to address a potential software issue. power-brake to help cut while walking around corners.
I recalls include 42,199 cars from for the 2023 and 2024 model years which may have faulty software for their skid control units. These units control both collision and regenerative braking, and may apply insufficient brake pressure if the brake is pressed while turning a corner, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Insufficient pressure in the brake lines means less stopping power, which can lead to long standing distances. Drivers may notice heavy tread as well, according to NHTSA.
Toyota estimates that 100% of recalled vehicles have this software problem. The control unit containing the faulty software is part of a brake-actuator assembly supplied by Bosch, and Toyota noted that some of its models have actuators from the same supplier with the same software. However, the automaker is still confirming whether a similar loss of braking power may occur in these other models.

Built in a factory in Alabama that works in conjunction with Mazda, the Corolla Cross Hybrid arrived for the 2023 model year, one model year after the non-hybrid version. It gets up to 42 mpg combined with standard all-wheel drive, which isn't too far off from the 48 mpg achieved by the compact, aerodynamic all-wheel-drive Corolla Hybrid sedan.
