Xiaomi's high-performance SU7 prototype set a record at Germany's Nürburgring track, according to the company. The SU7 Ultra completed the grueling lap in just six minutes and 46.874 seconds, taking the title of fastest four-door car at the famous track.
Since 1927, the 20.9 km Nürburgring track has put cars to the test as the ultimate testing ground.
Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun took to Chinese social media site Weibo yesterday to announce the news, shortly after the SU7 Ultra finished making the rounds. “As a newcomer to the automotive industry, Xiaomi has shown great determination and courage by taking on the Nürburgring challenge with its first car,” Lei wrote in Chinese, Reuters reported.
The Ultra hypercar, launched this summer, has a three-wheel drive system developed by Xiaomi, which delivers 1,548 PS (1,140 kW), and can go from 0 to 100km/h (62 miles per hour) in 1.97 seconds and reaches a speed of up to 350km/h, according to the company.
On X, as on Weibo in China, the head of Xiaomi shared some technical details, including that the EV will have the largest brake discs in its segment, made of carbon ceramic at professional racing standards. It will also be fitted with Bilstein EVO T1 tires and come with a combined 548 hp, which is more than the Bugatti Chiron.
Tesla said its Model S Plaid can reach 60 kilometers per hour from 0 to 1.99 seconds, and Lucid says its Sapphire can do the same in 1.89 seconds.
Back in January, Xiaomi booked the Nürburgring track for October 9 and 10, but rain canceled its test, Chinese media reported. CnEPPost. On October 24, Xiaomi was given a one-hour opportunity to test the car from 11 pm to midnight, the company reported.
Last December, Xiaomi released its first car, the SU7, which was officially launched in March, offering three versions – Standard, Pro, and Max, with the Standard starting at $30,761. Since its launch, the SU7 has been a hit in China and will easily surpass production targets of 100,000 units one month ahead of schedule. To boost that momentum, Xiaomi now expects to complete construction of its EV factory expansion in mid-2025, which should boost its numbers even more — at least, that's the goal.
