The Toyota bZ3C has leaked, revealing a new electric SUV in China
Toyota unveiled the bZ3C concept at the Beijing 2024 motor show in April. The electric crossover was shown alongside the bZ3X, a large SUV designed for families.
The bZ3X was developed by BYD Toyota EV Technology, a joint venture established in 2020 to explore the development of electric vehicles and batteries. Others, including FAW Toyota, were involved in the process.
Toyota says the bZ3C is designed in a “Refresh” style that includes fun features to appeal to younger Gen Z buyers.
In comparison, the bZ3X SUV aims to provide “Home Comfort” as a family mover. Both models are made for the Chinese market.
We are taking a closer look at this small group after documents were published by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on Friday.
The documents show a pure electric power train with an LFP battery from BYD's Wuwei Fudi Battery Co. The 268 hp (200 kW) electric powertrain is also available from BYD.
Toyota will offer 21″ or 18″ wheels, a black rear spoiler, and laser radar up front.
At 4,780 mm long, 1,866 mm wide, and 1,510 mm tall, Toyota's new electric crossover is the same size as Tesla's Model Y (4,750 mm long x 1,921 mm wide x 1,624 mm tall).
It will be Toyota's third EV launch in China, following the bZ4X and bZ3. Toyota is expected to launch the new bZ4C later this year. Production is scheduled to begin at the FAW-Toyota plant in Tianjin by the end of 2024. Although not disclosed, CarNewsChina expects the new EV to have a range of 310 mi (500 km) to 373 miles (600 km) CLTC range.
