Ballard secures 50MW gasoline engine deal with New Flyer


Ballard Power Systems has announced a commercial agreement with long-time partner and leading North American bus manufacturer, New Flyer, to supply 50MW of fuel cell engines for its hydrogen-powered buses across the US and Canada.


Agreement – involving 500 Ballard FCmove®The HD+ modules do not emit – represent the largest single commitment from New Flyer since the partnership began. With deliveries due to begin later this year, fuel cell engines will power the customer's Xcelsior CHARGE FC. decarbonized public transit buses across North America.

This latest agreement supports a strong and productive working relationship between our partners and the encouraging growth of Ballard zero-emission powered transit buses from New Flyer, which now has 11 regions across North America – with nearly 150 units in daily service with multiple agencies throughout California; and important carbon-emitting vessels in regular service in Nevada, Ohio, Washington, and Manitoba.


Today, the Ballard fleet has grown to more than 2,200 fuel tankers worldwide, collectively logging more than 250 million miles with 98% availability and reported safety incidents.

Through additional sales of Ballard Fleet Services – including training, technical support, parts supply, performance monitoring, digital information, and ongoing fleet servicing – Ballard and its customers unlock additional value that strengthens fleet performance.
